Most people think that abusive relationships can only be physically, mentally, or sexually. But in fact there is one more kind of abuse that rarely is acknowlaged. And that is neglect. Kids and/or adults get neglected in relationships, with husbands/wifes, moms/dads, etc. It occurs more in children with neglectful parents.

Neglect(n): an act or instance of neglecting; disregard; negligence

There are many different types of neglect out there. Physical neglect, Educational neglect, Emotional/Psychological neglect, and Medical neglect.

Backround Information
Child abuse is more than bruises and broken bones. While physical abuse might be the most visible sign, other types of abuse, such as emotional abuse or child neglect, also leave deep, long lasting scars. Some signs of child abuse are subtler than others. However, by learning common types of abuse and what you can do, you can make a huge difference in a child’s life. The earlier abused children get help, the greater chance they have to heal from their abuse and not perpetuate the cycle. Learn the signs and symptoms of child abuse and help break the cycle, finding out where to get help for the children and their caregivers.

"Neglected Child" means a child less than 18 years of age whose physical, mental or emotional condition has been impaired or is in danger of becoming impaired as a result of the failure of the child's legal guardian to exercise a minimum degree of care in supplying the child with adequate food, clothing, shelter, or education or medical care. Neglect also occurs when the legal guardian fails to provide the child with proper supervision or guardianship by allowing the child to be harmed, or to be at risk of harm which includes when the guardian misuses drugs or alcohol him/herself.
